Busting the definitions

I have heard millions of definitions of self-esteem and self-confidence so that's the place we are going to start.

I want you to know that there is a vivid difference between self-confidence and self-esteem because people muddle the lines between these two terms.

Your level of Self-esteem means the level of trust you have in who you are(or who you think you are) and in your ability to perform.

Some people bring about exceedingly complex definitions of self-esteem but we are not interested in that. Self esteem is just a bunch of thoughts you have in who you are.

A high self-esteem means you think you are a fabulous person and deserves all the great things the world has to offer and a low self esteem means well.... You think you're a bag of shit and deserve nothing at all.

I hope we are clear with that. Now let's look into self confidence.

Self confidence on the other hand means two things

The first is confidence the feeling - This is what most people are after. Most people want the powerful feelings of certainty and assurance. It is the feeling of absolute trust that you can perform very well in a particular situation. It's that relaxed attitude, that badass calm and James Bond like attitude.

This definition isn't wrong. The problem with this is that you don't get the feelings if confidence by reading books or surfing the Internet or taking an online course or going under hypnosis. As much as we salivate about having this feeling of confidence coming upon us like the Holy Spirit, it won't happen because it is highly specific. And it comes with practice and Mastery.

Become good at anything and you'll have the feelings of confidence. Simple.

I hear people lie all the time that they are not confident at anything. There is absolutely nothing farther from the truth: most of us can speak fluently, walk, write, knot a tie, brush our teeth, drives and so on. We are super confident at all these things because we have practice them a million times. But because they are mundane things we pay no attention to them.

As I was saying. The feeling of confidence is highly specific and comes only after gaining competence at performing an activity. The more your competence the more your levels of confidence. So to get this natural feeling of confidence, you need to take action repeatedly. This is a big challenge as all sorts of negative and foolish feelings tend to pop when we're about to take actions in the direction we want in life.

However that's what this course is all about. It's about transcending all those negative thoughts and being able to take action to get those feelings of confidence and living your life.

Now lets talk about the other type of confidence.

The other less used meaning of confidence happens to be the true meaning. This is confidence the action, an act of trust. It originates from the Latin word "com" meaning with, and "fidere" meaning trust. This means taking action with trust in yourself. This is highly dependent on your levels of self-esteem because if you lack a solid self-esteem, there won't be a self to rely on. As you progress through this course you'd learn how to Disarm your negative thoughts, transcend low self-esteem and be able to take action with confidence.

And Yeah I can feel your skepticism. I'm not going to ask you to fake anything till you make it. As you'd see, fake it till you make it is the loophole to developing confidence which may not work if you don't understand the underlying principles of confidence.

One thing I have learned in my personal struggles with confidence and in coaching others is that it is impossible to build true confidence without taking care of our issues of self-esteem and negative thoughts at first.

This is just to wet your appetite about what is coming. Let's get into this properly.
